Factors That Influence How Long Your LED Light Bulbs Last

If you’re looking to maximize your LED light bulbs, read on to understand some of the factors that may impact how long they last you.

Most people are familiar with some of the benefits of LED light bulbs. One reason many people are turning to this kind of bulb is their lifespan, as they tend to last much longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. Incandescent bulbs typically only last around 1,000 hours, where LED light bulbs can have lifespans of 50,000 hours or ten years of use. As great as that is, there are ways to get even more out of your bulbs! If you’re looking to maximize your LED light bulbs, read on to understand some of the factors that may impact how long they last you.

Power Supply

As with any electrical appliance, your LED bulbs require stable power to continue working. It’s critical that voltage is controlled and regulated, which in turn optimizes your performance and life expectancy for your LED light bulbs. Sometimes this can’t be controlled; if your electrical system goes through regular voltage fluctuations, that may have an effect on how long your LED lights can last.

Temperatures

Similar to other electronics, the temperature of a bulb’s surroundings can impact its lifespan. When it comes to outdoor lighting, those high temperatures that can come with being outdoors can reduce how much use you’ll get from these bulbs. Enclosed fixtures are also going to drive temperatures up, as the heat generated by the bulb will have nowhere to escape. A good light fixture will have enough room to dissipate that heat, keeping your bulb up and running for longer.

Capacitors

A capacitor is an element of electronics that stores energy for later use. In LED bulbs, it keeps energy around for producing the illumination you ultimately get when the bulb is on. Cheaper plastic capacitors work well though higher temperatures can again shorten how long they last. On the other hand, people are using ceramic capacitors these days, as they are more tolerant to higher temps.

Bulb Cases

We’re continuing the trend of talking about temperatures by heading over to bulb cases. The case that houses your bulb is susceptible to temperature changes, and anything higher than 85 degrees can begin to shorten a bulb’s lifespan. Anything higher than 105 degrees is a red flag, as it can stop the LED light bulb from functioning entirely. This is why temperature management is so essential to keeping LED light bulbs functioning for a long time.
