Why LED Lighting Is Great For The Environment

LED lighting has a wide range of environmental advantages.

It’s the civic duty of every human being to take care of the environment. Many people are already familiar with certain environmentally-friendly practices, such as recycling. However, a lot of people are not aware of certain modern-day technologies that can be used to reduce carbon emissions. One such example is LED lighting. LED lighting has a wide range of environmental advantages.

Energy-Efficient

LED lights can be as much as 80% more efficient than fluorescent and incandescent lighting. With LED lighting, only 5% of LEDs are converted into heat. The rest gets converted into light. The opposite is true of fluorescent lighting, which emits 95% heat and 5% light.LED lights also don’t draw as much power as traditional lighting. As an example, an 84-watt fluorescent can be replaced with a 36 watt LED, and the light emitted will be equal. This means LED lighting demands less energy, which takes a strain off of power plants and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.

No Toxic Components

There are no toxic elements associated with LED lighting. Many office buildings use fluorescent strip lights, which harbor all sorts of toxic chemicals, including mercury. If these lights are thrown into landfills, they will cause damage to the environment. Any disposal needs to be arranged with a registered waste carrier. If you switch to LED lighting, you avoid spending the extra time and money that you would need for compliant disposal, and help protect the planet from more toxic waste.

Fewer Lights Needed

LEDs have higher quality light distribution and focus the light in one direction. This is more efficient than other lighting methods that waste energy trying to emit light in all directions, which often results in having areas being lit up even when they don’t need light. This means fewer LED lights are needed than fluorescent and incandescent lights to achieve the lighting you want. Fewer lights needed for lighting an area means a reduction in energy consumption, which ultimately helps the environment.

Life Span

There are lower carbon emissions when lights have a longer life span. Any LED lighting will last up to six times as long as other lighting options, lowering the frequency of replacing lights. When fewer lights need to be used and replaced, fewer resources need to be manufactured, packaged, and transported to the places that need them.
